“Practice makes permanent
Perfect practice makes perfect
Parenting makes permanent
Reading this book will make you a perfect parent. Turn to page 97 and read the quote, then go back to page 1 and do not put the book down until you have read all of it.”
- Ashley Hammond, Owner Soccer Domain and Ashley's Soccer Camp
“Because Kids Don’t Come with Manuals® - Contemporary Advice for Parents is a potpourri of parental wisdom about the tough job of raising kids in today’s world. Author Nocera shares her own insights into many of today’s parenting challenges and acknowledges that while no one has all the answers, these are some of the questions you’ll face. Short on advice but long on sympathy, understanding, and reassurance that you are not alone, the book is a feel-good read. And quick quotes from “experts” as diverse as Aristotle and Oprah Winfrey will have you nodding your head at these pearls of parenting.”
Judith Nolte, Editor-in-Chief, American Baby
"Because of Tina's book, I'm now almost as smart as my wife."
- Pat Still, Top rated morning show host, Infinity Broadcasting/CBS Radio
“The book is warm, sane, passionate and loving. It is full of little stories and wisdom.”
-Dr. Steven Kairys, Chairman - Dept. of Pediatrics, Jersey Shore Medical Center
“On each page of this easy to read book, Tina Nocera provides relevant quotes from historical figures to reinforce the focus of that page. She gives the reader real-life solutions to many of the issues we face as parents. For me as an educator, this is an important book for all parents to read because it offers concrete advice for planning to have children, as well as poignant ideas once your baby is born. More importantly, the book traces child development from toddler through adolescent. I loved grandfather Nocera’s quote dealing with accepting responsibility to be a parent ‘you wanted a chicken farm, pick up your eggs.’ At the end of each chapter, summary tips are provided to highlight the key points from the chapter. Another key ingredient to parenting is the role of character education. This really sets the foundation very early in life for us to teach right from wrong by being exemplary role models for our children to emulate. My job as a Principal would be a lot easier if more parents prepared themselves for the awesome responsibilities of being a parent, by reading such cogent and contemporary books as Ms. Nocera’s.”
-John R. Khani, President, New York Elementary Schools Principals’ Association (NYCESPA)
“This book is a keeper for parents. The shared experiences have a universal ‘ah-hah’ understanding. I have encouraged my two children to read the book now to understand were they came from and how to relate to their work-world. I asked them to read it again when they are pregnant then during the first year of parenthood, then save the book for the beginning of the teen years to prepare for what is to come. There is wisdom here, not to be confused with a "year 1, year 2, year 3..." dogma, but to be used daily in dealing with our kids and with many adult acquaintances.”
-Rev. Dr. Keith A. Muhleman, Executive Director, Cancer Research & Treatment Fund, Father of 2
"Tina Nocera invites us to a compelling conversation about children and our role as their parents. She has the head and heart to do this in an easy-going way that makes the dialogue quite enjoyable. And yet she touches us in a profound way. Someone once said that "children are living messages we send to a time we will not see." Reading this book gives us all a special understanding of that truth."
-Charles E. "Gus" Whalen, Jr., Chairman, The Warren Featherbone Foundation
